Yours looks better than mine!

Did I mention that Alex is a little dare devil?! Earlier this week he learned a new trick. He can now get himself from a laying position into a sitting position. Add that to his new love of pulling himself up onto anything stable enough to do that on (or sometimes not stable enough) and you have a child that can go from laying to standing. Great accomplishment - congrats Alex.

Being the quick study he is, today he decided to try a new trick. So, at nap time today, he was practicing his lay down/sit up/stand trick. He kept getting excited once he was up and standing. Dawn kept laying him back down (so he'd sleep). Well, one time when she went up to lay him back down, she noticed he wasn't in his crib. In fact, he was in Nick's crib, giggling. That's right, the baby stood up and tumbled over the side of his own crib, into his brother's bed (remember, they are pushed up next to each other). I guess he was tired of his crib (he's had the same one since birth, but his brothers got new ones). He decided he wanted to check out his other options.

Needless to say, I lowered his mattress this evening. I give him a week or so to figure out how to crawl/climb up that!

Randomness and firsts

What a week! Cousin Sydney, new tooth, distinguishable words, photo shoot...

Alex: Alex is our dare devil. He hasn't quite mastered crawling, but he can army crawl anywhere he wants to go. And that's typically towards something new to chew on. He loves to "play" with the speaker and of course the cord attached to the ipod. You have to make sure you don't put the ipod above him on the couch or table... he'll grab the cord and pull it down on top of his head. He also loves moving towards the radio or playing with any of the toys that make music. Of course, it seems all of his chewing has paid off. His first tooth started popping through Friday. It's his lower right tooth. Doesn't seem to bother him much but he doesn't like when I try to open his mouth and look.

Logan: Our little monkey. He loves to be tossed around (and being so much smaller than his brothers, we accidentally swing him a little when picking him up after the other guys!). He likes to be upside down. And man, can the little dude laugh!! It's contagious. He also likes to gurgle. This is usually cute, unless he gurgling with some food or milk he has, let's say, brought back up.

Nick: Nick said 'dada' this weekend. And repetitively says it. He isn't necessarily associating it with Dad, but he is using more consonants. Especially if he's upset. Nick has been a little moody this week, but at times it has been hilarious! It's almost like he's trying to cuss us out in baby language. You just have to laugh, which of course, doesn't make him any happier.

I have some video I need to process and post. One of Nick talking and some of the boys playing. I can also put up some of the pictures from our photo shoot today. There were some cute ones, but the boys weren't real interested in having their pictures taken. They all started out fine... then Alex and Nick decided they didn't want to participate. Logan, as usual, was fine with whatever and smiled and played quite nicely. The pictures above are from the shoot.

I know I mentioned Cousin Sydney up above, but she is post-worthy all to herself (and I'm tired for tonight). I'll type up more tomorrow about our fun time with our big cousin!

So long infant carriers

I already miss our carriers. This week we switched out the infant carrier car seats for the bigger, I'm growing up and don't need baby stuff anymore, car seats. At first, it sounds great... the boys are getting bigger and better at getting around on their own; We don't have to store the carriers behind the chair anymore. But then the more I thought about it... Before, we could load the boys in their chairs, grab the rest of our gear, then load up the boys. Now - once we start putting them in their seats, we better be ready to go - it is hot outside in the van (stupid summer)! Speaking of getting them in the van, we had to take out one of the adult seats, put two baby seats in the 3rd row and the 3rd baby seat in the middle row. Did I mention these seats are still rear-facing? Let's just say it's not the easiest to get them in their seats (where as before, they just slid right in). And there's the sleep factor. Before, if they fell asleep when we were out and about, they could just sleep in their seats. Or if they were asleep when we got home, they might stay asleep for a while once we bring them in ... in the carrier.

Waa, Waa, Waa... right? Well, enough complaining. The boys are growing, which is great (I think). It's just one more step to becoming a little man. I'll adjust. And besides, we took them to the grocery store tonight and they looked so cute in their stroller without the carriers (although being the first time in that stroller, it took the adults a few minutes to figure out how to restrain the ever-moving child). And Nick in the cart was very cute! These pics aren't the best - they're from my phone - but you get the gist.


So, although we'll miss the conveniences of the carriers, I'm sure we'll learn to love the new seats too. There will continue to be new experiences (like the store today) which is always fun. Speaking of new experiences... I bought some biter biscuits today for the boys to try. Nick and Logan didn't want to even try. Alex didn't at first, but after a while, seemed to enjoy it...

The best part of the day... Adam's home again! We missed him :-)

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Hey guys... quick... while mom's in there cleaning up our mess again... let's blog!
We sure were fussy today weren't we?! It probably would have helped if we slept more, but there was something else... what was it about today... I know! It was daddy's birthday, but he wasn't here! Maybe that's why we were 'in a mood' as mom would say.

Happy Birthday Daddy!! We miss you! Mom said you're in Seattle, but we don't know where that is really. All we know is we keep looking around to find you but you're not there. We sang Happy Birthday to you today. Mom said we were practicing for Saturday. All I heard is that there will be cake ... can we have some?! (Mom already said no, but we figured we'd ask dad too... just in case he says something else).

Hey Alex - did Dreft get the blood out of your onesie?
Yeah - most of it anyway.
Why do you keep bleeding all the time? Maybe you should stop putting everything in your mouth! They're not even sharp things - what gives?!
Nah... it's cool. It's fun to put things in my mouth. I just have to work on my balance so I don't jam it into the roof of my mouth like tonight. Besides, it only hurts for a few minutes and mom gives me extra attention... and a cool washcloth to chew on!
I guess that doesn't sound so bad after all! I wonder what we could get into next...

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there! We had a very busy/fun day today. We started out the morning sleeping in (slightly). Granted, this is partially due to how late the boys stayed up last night. The boys presented Adam with his father's day gift (a cool t-shirt). Unfortunately, we all then had to say good-bye to daddy... He had to go to the airport for his flight to Seattle for the SLA conference. We were going to take him and see him off, but he had to be there at the same time as the boys eat breakfast. We miss him already and look forward to him being home soon!!

With Adam off to Seattle (with a slight delay due to weather - of course), I packed up the boys to go to Decatur for the day. I know... we were just there yesterday. But my dad didn't get to see the boys much while we were in town, so we figured we'd visit some more (being father's day and all). The boys were in pretty good moods when we got there, and we took the opportunity for a little photo shoot. It's amazing how many pictures you can take of 3 babies and almost never get them all looking at the same place at the same time and happy. I know, I ask for a lot! Anyway, we did get a few good ones. (I also added more to the slideshow on the blog.) After lunch, we headed out to Uncle Matt and Aunt Denna's house for a family cook-out. Matt fixed some awesome steaks and chicken! After we ate, we took the boys swimming again. This time, everyone was more awake and could enjoy it more.
We got out of the pool just as a storm was coming in. We watched from the house as the rain and hail fell out of the sky. What is it about being in Decatur, with Adam's vehicle, on a holiday of sorts and it hails?! It didn't last for long and then we headed back to mom and dad's for baby dinner. After that, I'm not real sure what happened because I took a nap. I think the boys played with Grandma and Grandpa (I noticed Uncle Brandon sleeping on the couch too) because when I woke up, they were exhausted and ready to come home.

8 Months Old Swimmers

The boys are officially 8 months old! Not much new to report that we haven't already posted. Still no teeth - although some days one or two of them are grumpy until you give them a cool teether. Still no "official" crawling - although Alex has shown great promise! He gets up on all fours, rocks back and forth and maybe goes forward one movement. (Unless of course you turn on the camera - then he just rolls and smiles at the camera!) We're willing to say he's crawling, just not an expert. They do move fast though. If they want to, they can be all the way across the room in 3 seconds. Hopefully a brother wasn't in the way or he would be rolled right over! They are all able to sit up by themselves, although Logan still isn't as sure about it.

We did take the boys swimming for the first time today! We went to my Aunt Barb's house and used her pool (thanks Barb!). It was a little cool at first and they weren't really sure what to make of it, but they eventually had a good time. Well, at least Alex and Logan did. Nick was getting sleepy and wasn't too interested. He just wanted to be put down for a nap. Logan was typical Logan. We put him in one of the baby floating devices (which had a bit of an incline so he could lay back) and he did his typical... hands behind the head.





For their first time they did pretty well. Nick was much happier when we dried him off and let him sleep. Don't they look so cute sleeping!

Both Alex and Logan went under the water (purely supervised of course) and didn't care much for it. Who can blame them! They did enjoy splashing and grabbing for the bubbles in the water. All in all, it was a good experience and I look forward to more swimming adventures. Maybe next time it won't be during nap time!

And so it begins...

I have 3 little boys... I should just expect to spend a major portion of my time fixing scrapes and bruises and all sorts of other boo-boos. And then there's the thought of spending so much time in the prompt care that we get to know all the doctors and nurses and their life stories. Of course we'll probably just have a standing appointment at least once a week. They'll have a pool started for which boy it will be that week. (I wonder if I could get in on that!) Well, whoever guessed it would be Alex this week would win the pot!

Okay, so we didn't have to go to prompt care, but he was bleeding. Dawn mentioned it before she left, so when Adam brought him down for dinner, we noticed he had a fat lip! Sounds like he got carried away chewing on some toys this afternoon and bonked himself. He has to put everything in his mouth and especially likes chewing on the activity center bases or bouncy chair frames. Dawn said he didn't really cry, just sucked down the blood and contined playing. Poor little man! (Silly little man!)

Oh yeah... Logan pooped in his bath tonight. Freaked Adam out! I can't wait til the days when all three are in the tub together and someone poops... Mom look - a new toy is floating in the water!!!
